initially a fictional band formed by shunji iwai for the film "all about lily chou-chou". the band consisted of salyu, takeshi kobayashi, and yukio nagoshi. they are most known for their main album "kokyu", released in 2001. their genre is widely considered dream pop, for its dreamy and disorienting sound. personally, their music changed me forever. salyu's enchanting vocals almost seem to hypnotize the listener, filling me with peace. while the entire album is masterpiece in itself, my favorite song is アラベスク (arabesque) and 愛の実験 (experiment of love).
ethel cain--real name hayden anhedönia--is a singer-songwriter from perry, florida. she came out with her first album, "golden age", in 2019. featuring songs like "sunday morning", "head in the wall", and "knuckle velvet". she gained popularity with "preacher's daughter" her first album in the ethel cain story. she is known for her southern gothic style, growing up in the rural south heavily impacting her sound. some of my favorite songs are: gibson girl, fear no plague, vacillator, two-headed mother, unpunishable, punish, family tree, ptolemea, and tongue.
a japanese-american singer and songwriter, known as one of the most influencial and best-selling artists in japan. they are featured on the kingdom hearts 2 soundtrack as well as the neon genesis evangelion: rebuild soundtrack. their music falls under j-pop, r&b, and dance pop. some of my favorite songs are: passion - single version, 桜流し (flowing cherry blossoms), sakura ドロップス, one last kiss, can you keep a secret?, and colors.

welcome to my music page. i am a self-declared music lover! growing up with my father who somehow always knew every band and every song, i learned throughout my adolescence about the diversity of genres and artists there are. due to platforms like youtube, spotify, and soundcloud that i practically spent my whole life with, ive had the privilege to broaden my horizons and discover new songs/artists almost every single day!
i often create playlists for specific "vibes" instead of by genre. music is like water to me--its hard to shape. i also practically abuse the hell out of spotify's "discovery weekly" playlist, it's apart of my monday routine to listen to the songs on there. to be honest, it can be hit or miss. i think the hardest question to ask me music-wise is "what's your favorite genre/song/artist?" because there's just so many to choose from. when i am asked that, i normally just respond with what im currently listening to rather than a definitive answer.
besides films, music is my LIFE! if i wasn't such an introvert i'd be in a band. maybe one day ill make my own music, but for now, i stick to behind the scenes work. i have a few friends that are in bands, and supporting them makes me incredibly happy. (support your local scene!) i own an electric guitar that i can't play very well, but i try my best to learn. the first song i want to play fully is gibson girl by ethel cain. hearing that guitar riff live was genuinely life changing.
currently, i've been listening to a lot of what's considered "dad rock" but it's really just a mix of a lot of late 90s early 2000s alt rock artists. my top artists are chevelle, superheaven, loathe, sleeping with sirens, paramore, and 9million. songs that i've had on repeat lately are: the red - chevelle, freakin' out - dexter and the moonrocks, the bomb dot com v2.0 - sleeping with sirens, living dead girl - rob zombie, pass the nirvana - pierce the veil, grab thy hand - chevelle, youngest daughter - superheaven, two-way mirror - loathe, conspiracy - paramore, and screaming - loathe. anything with a good guitar riff in the background gets added to my liked songs to be honest haha.
