Monthly Favorites - May 2005
wow, i cant believe may is already over. i was very, very, busy this month completing school and graduating, but of course i found sometime to make this list for you. welcome to my may favorites!

no matter what season it is, my lips are always dry and chapped! ive used vaseline my whole life but i ended up finding this limited edition tin when i was going to purchase my usual tin. its definitely my top favorite thing this month! i use it every night before bed and every morning when i wake up. the scent is of roses and very fragrant but not overwhelming. the tin is also very elegant and matches me so well.

though i havent had much time to sit down and read this month unlike the rest, i picked up "the picture of dorian gray" by oscar wilde in barnes and noble at the end of april and have loved the small amount of it i have read. specifically, this edition has gold on the rim of each thick and shiny page, which is a sign of good quality for its price. oscar wilde is an interesting author and i look forward to continuing to read his stories.

personally, i believe fragrances are crucial to my daily life. especially when the seasons change, i seek out a new lotion or cream to use with a scent that corresponds to the season. for summer, i picked out this lotion by the french brand 'a la maison' in the scent "sea salt". the scent is very simple and mellow, but it smells like the beach and is a moisturizing lotion i can use throughout the day. it also can be used as a hand lotion when my hands feel dry.

on the topic of lotions and creams, i also like to use a cream after getting out of the shower to lock in moisture. i picked up "barcelona bliss" by 'solo en ibiza' on a trip to tjmaxx (one of my favorite stores to find random niche things lol) and the amount of complements ive gotten after is insane! the cream has hints of black current, vanilla, jasmine, freesia, and amber wood. this cream is very fragrant, so if youre sensitive to that i wouldnt exactly recommend, but its exactly what a summer night smells like.

onto more media! my music pick for may is the moonrise kingdom soundtrack. moonrise kingdom is the perfect movie for late spring-early summer and one of my favorite wes anderson movies. the soundtrack has classical songs like "a midsummer nights dream" and more modern songs like "le temps de l'amour" (one of my favorite songs!) and if youre a wes anderson fan this is definitely something to add to your collection--or just to listen to while studying/working.

instead of a movie this month, ive chosen a short i finally found a way to watch! "on your mark" is a music video for the song of the same name by chage and aska--a japanese rock duo. the short film was directed by hayao miyazaki as a side project. it is such a powerful short film and i am so happy to finally see it myself. miyazaki's animation style will always amaze me with its soft and vibrant color palettes and simple yet meaningful design.

when it comes to graduations and parties, everyone loves to take pictures. so what better way to take a photo than to use a good-old digital camera? this sony cybershot has been used by my parents pretty much my whole life and now its been given to me. its very reliable and takes the most nostalgic looking photos. i highly recommend taking a digicam with you wherever you go, it makes your photos feel much more meaningful.

as for my monthly skincare pick, i have to give some love to anua! anua is my favorite brand of skincare products for skin as sensitive as my own, i use their cleanser and toner pads apart of my night routine daily. these heartleaf toner pads dont burn or irritate my skin, and they are unscented--which is always a plus for very sensitive skin. these shrunk my pores within a month of using them and always make me feel so clean.

this month was pretty rough but worth it in the end! im excited to move to a different chapter in my life and have more free-time this summer to do what i love--coding of course. hopefully i can get out an actual blog post this month too lol!

love, felix
