a day with philia #1 ~ June 26, 2005
welcome to my first actual blog in a while, the past year was really hard on me which caused me to barely update my site and blog... now that a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders i can comfortably sit down at my computer for about an hour writing to you. i hope these blogs can bring you some comfort as i share my mundane day-to-day life. :)

today was sunny and partially cloudy with a small chance of rain.. its been very rainy lately which im happy about--more days i can spend inside watching movies hehe. yet despite the hot weather i was excited since id be going into town to buy some beanie babies! ive been slowly building my collection since i moved to my small town about five years ago, but i didnt take much interest in it until recently. theres a toy store that sells all sorts of vintage toys; beanie babies, barbie dolls, hot wheels, strawberry shortcakes, really anything you could think of they have. yet i mostly go just for their giant beanie baby selection. they have a large table with a mountain of them, then 4 bins full of them on the floor. i swear i could spend hours sifting through and picking out the ones i want but i told myself id only get four today. they sell them two for 5$, so four is about 10$ and some change.
before i headed into town though, i woke up and did my usual routine--brushed my teeth, washed my face, etc. and had a good
breakfast. i always try to make a good breakfast or lunch for myself, it really does affect my mood and how i feel throughout the day. today, i made a rosemary grilled cheese--i could say this is something i came up with but im probably wrong--which is pretty much just a normal grilled cheese but using rosemary infused olive oil. believe me, its 100 times better than a usual grilled cheese! i paired it with a peach and half of a banana, i noticed it was going to be overripe soon, so i put the other half in the freezer to make a smoothie some other day. i had some orange juice on the side.. not my favorite beverage to drink but i sadly cant drink tea anymore with my meals due to my iron deficiency (green/black tea decrease iron absorbtion, which i need badly lol) so now i have to drink juice or water with my breakfast! i miss my morning tea... but i still drink it one hour after. i also take supplements for my health, simple things like vitamin d, iron, etc. ill be sure to add my meals to my recipes page in the future, when i finish it!
after i finished my breakfast, i headed to town! the first place i went to was a bakery i had yet to try. i had no idea that it was there even though the cashier told me they had been there for two years! woa,, im so used to going to the same places that i never really ventured out haha. anyway, i bought a slice of cake, the bakery has monthly flavors, and one of the flavors--chocolate raspberry fudge--interested me. i love raspberries and chocolate, and even though im not much of a sweet tooth i do like a slice of cake every now and then. i didnt eat much of it though since i bought it to have it as dessert after dinner tonight. overall i enjoyed the cake! i will say i wasnt a fan of the raspberry part sadly, since it wasnt real raspberry so it had that fake sort of taste to it. yet the chocolate part was great! i really liked that the ganache on top had espresso in it, i love chocolate and espresso.

next of course was the toy store! as soon as i got there i headed to the back where the beanie babies were. i swear i had so many i couldnt even carry them all lol. it was hard picking just four to take home, but im sure theyll be there next time. today i came home with a lamb, a cat, a bear (of course), and a bunny! a nice variety! i actually have the bunny in a different color, i bought a purple one the last time i came but found a pink one this time (which i was especially excited about considering baby pink is one of my favorite colors). once my beanie baby collection page is up ill share more info on them, but ill leave a photo of them below hehe.

the last stop i made was at the records store across the street--another place that has been in town for quite a bit without my knowledge--to see what kind of selection they had. there was a good amount of cds and records, but a downsize from the one i usually go to thats a little further away. i ended up purchasing mitski's puberty 2 album on cd, which apparently had champagne spilled on it in the past (leave it to me to pick the one cd in the store that has a story lol) but was in great condition nonetheless.
i headed home and stopped at the gas station on the way... ended up running into an old friend of mine that i havent spoken to since i left my school a year ago. it was pretty awkward and kind of weird to see someone i was fairly close to seem like a stranger now. anyhow, once i was home i ate some dinner and watched a few episodes of house md then took a bath. i really like to take baths especially after going out, its seriously relaxing. afterwards i ended my night with an episode of twin peaks and a chapter of my current read, "if cats dissapeared from the world" by genki kawamura (an amazing book by the way, please give it a read) then went to bed.

so that was my day! pretty mundane, but i prefer the slow, quiet, life after many years of tiresome routines and crowded schools. im slowly adjusting to life after school, applying for jobs, taking it day-by-day, yknow. ive officially typed until my hands ache! which is usually a good sign, i want to write lots more for you to read, to make up for the lack of blogging haha. feel free to email me (1.800.philia@gmail.com) if you have anything to say, or even leave it in my
guestbook. i love recieving messages and i try to check them often :)
love, felix

Monthly Favorites ~ June 2005
june was a tiring month for me, yet i did pull together a small list of some favorite things of mine that really got me through it! heres my june monthly favorites...
first, i want to start with music. ive been listening to
breath (呼吸 - kokyū) by lily chou-chou for years now, and its gotten me through the hardest times in my life. lilys songs put my mind at ease and keep me calm, even when im heavily stressed. my love for 'breath' has only gotten stronger since the first time i listened to it! and its still my favorite album ever. even if youre not a lily fan, i urge you to give it a listen. i lost myself in the past few months, i didnt know who i was anymore and how to express myself. yet listening to this album and rewatching aalcc helped me regain my sense of self. i feel much better because of this--and im trying to change my site to bring it back to its once-colorful style.
next, as for movies, most of the films i watched didnt really stick out to me. that is until last sunday when i finally got to see
'the phoenician scheme' by wes anderson. this movie was so entertaining and the colors were beautiful. i found myself not looking away for one moment. the film was just what i needed, it was funny and bold--like every wes anderson movie of course. i cant wait to own it on dvd.
i finally found some time to read a book ive been looking forward to reading. i picked up
'if cats dissapeared from the world' by genki kawamura at the bookstore for $5 and noticed it was a short read. the chapters of the book are categorized by day, so i made it my personal goal to read each chapter along with the day of the week it correlates to. overall, it was a beautiful book. im the type of person that prefers to 'blind read' books--picking up a book that sparks my interest even if i have absolutely zero idea what its about. its like a game to me and makes reading more entertaining. (i do the same with movies too!)
a random thing i really enjoyed this month were
stone fruits.. i had never heard of that saying but when i found out i realized that most of these are my favorite fruits! i seriously always have these in my fridge, especially cherries and peaches. stone fruits are amazing and definitely my favorite category of fruit!
my mother gave me
120 prismacolor pencils from her college-days (as an art student) when i was a kid and ever-since ive always taken good care of them. these pencils are my favorite and i use them for everything! theres so many colors, i rarely find myself looking for a color that isnt avaliable. i see why these are so expensive.
something ive used a lot has to be my
lavender chamomile candle by DW home. i use it when i take a bath or right before i head to bed. its very calming and smells amazing! i definitely recommend DW home candles, they last me a long time and dont smell too strong.
ive added
crosswords to my daily routine! theyre so fun and relaxing to do in the morning or at night and really help turn my brain on. i usually get up in the morning and start with the NYT daily mini crossword (as well as wordle, strands, and connections--sometimes sudoku if im up for it) then when i get on my computer ill do the boatloadpuzzles daily crossword! i recommend it if you want to sharpen your mind and help your memory, ive noticed that i remember things easier now.
thats all i have for this month, this list is a bit shorter than my previous ones but as i said, june has been a big month for self-reflection (and a 'mid-life' crisis before i even reach my twenties! lol) so this pretty much sums up what i was doing. as always, thank you for reading!
love, felix
